The Sudden Craving: Quick Review
From what I understood, a vignette is a piece of writing where the
writer put in a lot of descriptions. It is a drawing in the form of words. At
least, that is the general idea of writing vignette.
.
From the vignette 'Sudden Craving', it can be seen that a lot of
details is put in describing what the character thinks. It first started with
the character's complaint of the hot weather, proceed to how the character saw
a kid with a drink, which leads to him or her (depending on your preference as
the reader) to imagine himself or herself drinking an imaginary drink. The tone
and mood should be blunt and funny at the same time. This is because of the
character's honesty in describing his or her surroundings. Sometimes, we love
honest jokes so that was what I tried to do.
.
At the end of the vignette, the character settled with drinking a
tasteless syrup drink from yesterday instead of getting a glass of iced lemon
tea, as he or she mentioned before. This was a twist intended to show that the
character is just a reflection of us all. Sometimes we crave for a lot of
things when we are not in our best conditions. For example, we desire to eat or
buy a lot of food when we are hungry. However, in the end, we could just settle
with anything, even as simple as a slice of bread.
.
On the other hand, this can be counted as a flash fiction where
the story does not have much conflict or complex plot. It is very simple since
it only tells the story of a character who was complaining of the weather and
craving for a drink, and ended up drinking whatever he or she could lay his or
her hands on. It is a very quick story although filled with detailed
descriptions. Therefore, it should be considered as flash fiction.
.
Actually, I did not plan to include vignette in this flash fiction.
But it seems like things happened that way so I thought, why not? I might as
well kill two birds with one stone while I am at it. So I hope that you enjoyed
my story. Thank you for your time😊😊.
