The Sudden Craving
Today was
scorching hot. I looked to the sky through the window and saw that it was
unusually blue and nasty. No clouds, no wind. Just a shade of pale and
unpleasantly blue sky. What a hot day. And don't let me start on the sun. The
king of stars showed no mercy. He shone brightly as if to show his power. If
this was the Joseon era, they would have had carried out a rain ritual.
As I was sitting in the staff room, thinking about life, I looked
out the window and saw a kid sipping his drink. The sound he made was haunting
me. He made his drinks look delicious. On this hot day, he sipped his iced
drink slowly, as if intended to torture me. Maybe I stared at him too hard, he
looked up and we made eye contact. Though I was startled, I gave him an awkward
smile and nodded before I looked away. The kid passed by and continued sipping
his drink. I think I almost went crazy upon hearing the sound he made. I
thought that a glass of iced lemon tea would be awesome on days like this. I
then proceeded to imagine myself drinking iced lemon tea. The sour taste of
lemon would be savoury and tea would be sweet. It would fill my mouth like
magic. Imagine drinking such cold drink on hot days like today. And when I
swallow it, the coldness would go down into my throat. Ah, what leisure.
Unfortunately, I was just imagining things. In reality, I was bored to death
sitting in the hustling and bustling staff room as other people rushed to
attend their own business. I just couldn't wait to go home and look inside my
fridge.
When I finally reached home, I immediately dropped everything I
carried on the nearest furniture (I think it was the sofa). I rushed to open
the fridge and, aha! Yesterday's tasteless syrup drink was still there. Well, I
shrugged. That's better than nothing.
